DeSimone Construction hired Quantum Technology to demolish a laboratory building in Bristol PA.  Besides doing equipment removal, electrical and mechanical disconnect and interior demolition of walls, floor and ceiling, the Quantum crew also does exterior and building demolition.  Contact us for your demo projects.  As usual, because we are an organization with a strong global resale arm, we are able to monetize items that a general demo contractor will send to landfill.  As a result, our prices for demo are usually much less expensive.

Project Details:
The crew checked for Asbestos or other hazards. In this case it was clean. Clear out all interior debris. Knocked down the building using mini excavator to shear the building. The debris was separated into brick and metal for recycling. Raked, placed top soil, seeded and placed hay on grounds.

KEY FACTS

Location: Philadelphia PA

Type: Data Center Decommissioning and Interior Demolition

Scope: Remove Floor, all cabling, all equipment, non load bearing walls, bring space back to original condition

Duration: 6 weeks

Client: Fiserv

Quantum Technology was invited to do a walk-through along with various Philadelphia trades, to bid on the decommission of the Fiserv data center on Market St. in Philadelphia.  The equipment was quite old and did not have strong resale value. As a result, Quantum, like the other bidders, submitted a charge to perform the clean-out and interior demoliton, but because of Quantum’s ability to monetize the assets, the charge was significantly less than the trades.

Project details
One of the complications of the project involved layers upon layers of cabling beneath the floor, much of which was set in place by various tenants who occupied the space before Fiserv.  Many of the connections also affected other suites in the building. In addition to working closely with the building electricians, Quantum also worked with the building mechanics to make sure no leaking occurred during the removal of the CRAC units.  Demolition and recovery included 125 server racks, 60,000 square ft of raised floor, cabling, piping, CRAC units, PDU’s, fire suppression tanks, cubicles and partition walls.  Fiserv was extremely pleased with Quantum’s work and went on to hire Quantum for many more projects around the country.

KEY FACTS

Location: Teaneck, NJ

Type: Demolition and removal of an outdoor Switchgear Block House

Scope: Dismantle the outdoor Switchgear Block house, or substation building, pack and remove. Disconnect the transformer and remove. Disconnect and remove miscellaneous data center equipment.

Duration: 10 days

Client: CBRE

CBRE Group Inc brokered the sale of a former 55,000 SF data center in Teaneck NJ to a local private school. The sale took some time due to complicated zoning issues. In order to clear the building and the outside grounds for the new school, CBRE hired Quantum Technology to dismantle and remove the equipment. Quantum was actually able to pay for the equipment and do the work for free. The money went towards the construction costs of the new school.

Project Details:
The  Metal-Clad Utility Switchgear Block House had 2 incoming primaries at 26.4 KV, and needed extensive coordination with the electric company. Quantum resold the enclosure after disassembly. The oil was tested in the transformer to make sure it did not contain PCB’s. The transformer was resold. Inside the building, the electrical equipment was removed, to make way for the school build out.

KEY FACTS

Location: Westminster, MA

Type: Data Center decommissioning and rooftop demolition

Scope: Removal all equipment in the data center; demolish and remove the roof top chilled water system

Duration: 2 weeks

Client: CBRE

One of the CBRE projects we worked on was in April 2019 with Gina Zastrow, a Project Manager for CBRE in New England.  At the time, Gina was part of an account team dedicated to Johnson Controls International, (JCI for short) and assigned to decommission the JCI data center on Simplex drive in Westminster Massachusetts.  The data center had exceeded its useful life, due to its age, and JCI decided to demolish it. JCI did not have in-house capabilities to do the demolition so Gina hired Quantum Technology who did the asset recovery and interior demo of the data center, and the demolition of a large cooling tower on the roof.

Project Details:
9,000 SF Raised Floor
6- Liebert Chilled Water units
1- Exide UPS and batteries
22- Dell server racks
6- Liebert condensing units
1- Gargantuan Cooling tower on the roof
All of the feeders and conduit

Quantum was responsible removing 9,000 SF raised floor, the UPS’s, CRAC units, batteries, Racks, and other miscellaneous equipment, including the roof top cooling tower.  Gina’s GC pulled the demo permits, did the electrical shut off, and drained the chilled water system. Quantum provided the crane, riggers, steel roll-offs, rigging equipment, materials and labor.  Mark Hussey was the CBRE facilities manager on the project and had direct hands on supervision. As far as I can tell, the project took 4 months to plan, and the decommission and demolition took about 4 weeks.  As Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying: “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.”  The data center was taken down to bare floor and walls- “broom swept condition”. Quantum put down material to protect the roof in order to dismantle and remove the cooling tower without causing damage. The cooling tower frame was disassemble and removed as well.
