An old bank, bound for renovation
Fenway Properties purchased the old Bank One buildings in Phoenix, Arizona. To prepare them for renovation, Quantum Technology was brought in to decommission the data center and completely clear out the facility — a 120,000 SF building.
The scope ran from the raised floor to the generators and chillers, and it included the switchgear and a long list of hazardous and high-value equipment that all had to come out before the renovation could begin.
Right down to the masonry
The crew brought the 25,000 SF raised-floor room back to bare walls and floor, evacuated the Freon from the CRAC units, and electrically disconnected the UPS systems, transformers and switchgear. The four 1979 Cummins generators were sold despite their age — and to get them out of the building, Quantum had to knock down the outside brick wall and then reconstruct the masonry.
Fire suppression tanks were deactivated, palletized and shipped to recycling; the wet-cell batteries were disconnected with special lifts, Arc Flash suits and insulated tools; the diesel fuel was drained and resold as Diesel #2 for construction and farm equipment; and all cabling, piping and conduit was pulled and recycled.
A 120,000 square foot facility — data center, generators, chillers and all — cleared and readied for renovation, with the masonry put back where a wall had to come down.
