A prime building, ready for a reset
When Intuit moved out of 6200 Greenwich Ave in San Diego and into their new headquarters, Kilroy Realty — the building owner — decided to do a complete interior demolition and re-do of this hot piece of real estate.
Kilroy hired Quantum for the decommission of the facility and data center assets: an entire clean-out of the data center, the roof and the exterior areas.

What came out of the facility

Meticulous, and by the regulations
The generator room was completely dismantled and the generators resold, bringing the room back to bare concrete. The fuel tanks had to be disconnected and lifted by crane over the retaining wall, and Quantum drained and resold the diesel. Beneath the raised-floor panels, the understructure was reinforced with earthquake-resistant braces — and everything was meticulously dismantled and removed.
On the hazards: several truckloads of batteries were removed and shipped to recycling facilities, with chain of custody provided on request; several thousand pounds of halon were deactivated, disconnected and recycled; and because the Liebert CRAC units were air-cooled, the R-22 was reclaimed and recycled. The roof’s large air handlers and many condensers were too worn to resell, so all of that material was recycled.
A 12,000 SF raised floor over an earthquake-braced understructure — plus 26 CRAC units, 29 roof condensers and three 1250kW generators — all taken back to bare concrete.
Floor, roof and everything between
The full build-out, plus the rooftop plant and the exterior.
Cleared, compliant, ready to rebuild
A prime San Diego building taken back to concrete, with every hazard handled by the book.
Back to bare concrete
Data center, roof plant and exterior were cleared and the generator room stripped to bare concrete for the redo.
Handled to the regulations
Halon and R-22 were reclaimed and recycled, and batteries went to recycling with chain of custody on request.
Recovered where it counted
Generators and diesel were resold; worn rooftop material that couldn’t be sold was recycled instead.
