The University of Pennsylvania bought a former biopharmaceutical research and development facility from DuPont, operating it as a Vivarium, and eventually sold the property to  E Kahn Development, a real estate investment and development company.  EKD initially planned to turn the 17 acre wooded property into a nursing home or assisted living facility. They engaged Quantum Technology to clear out 97,000 SF of laboratories, walk ins, animal cages, and electrical and mechanical rooms.  Eventually they sold the property to Spark Therapeutics for use as a research lab for gene therapy.

Project details:
17 Acres with a 3 story main building, 40,000 SF Vivarium, 97,000 SF of laboratories, with 7 additional outbuildings. Quantum disconnected electrical and plumbing, several thousand feet of laboratory case work, and more than (50) fume hoods. Removal included Counter tops, wall mount cabinets, Stainless steel cabinets, Walk in Coolers, Detroit Diesel Generator Carrier Air Cooled Chillers, York and Trane chillers, Air Compressors, Lab Area RO/DI Water Filtration system, including storage tanks, UV, DI and pumps, Scintillation counters, Microline 320, Nitrogen tanks, hood blowers, anesthesia carts, Omnifabs, C-arms, Proportioners. Tunnel washers, Scented Walk ins, Flammable cabinets, HazMat Enclosures, low voltage and high voltage feeders, pipes and conduit. Over a period of 4 months Quantum dismantled, removed and resold almost everything in the building.
