Making room inside a former GSK research center
MLP Ventures — the team behind Discovery Labs — is transforming the former GlaxoSmithKline research center in King of Prussia into the Center for Breakthrough Medicine: incubator and research space for scientists working primarily in cell and gene therapy, a “house of scientists” aimed at cutting-edge breakthroughs.
Before that vision could take shape, the building’s existing laboratory infrastructure had to come out — reactors, casework, fume hoods and a walk-in — cleanly, and without damaging the space MLP planned to rebuild.
Purchase, dismantle, remove
Quantum contracted with MLP Ventures to purchase, dismantle and remove the laboratory infrastructure. Over two weeks, crews disassembled and removed the reactors, casework, fume hoods and walk-in.
The decommission created clear, reconfigurable space for MLP to build back better lab space — while the used laboratory equipment Quantum recovered went into its refurbish-and-resell pipeline, headed to laboratories across the country.
